Transforming Perinatal Care from Within
JustBirth Space (JBS) partners with hospitals, health systems and public health agencies to advance equity, dignity, and healing in perinatal care. Our work addresses critical gaps in the maternal health system—especially for communities most impacted by inequities, including Black, brown, immigrant, disabled, LGBTQIA2+, and rural birthing people. Grounded in our C.A.R.E. Model (Connection, Accountability, Repair, and Equity) we help providers and systems create environments where families feel respected, safe, and supported throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
What We Do
Provider Education & Training
Virtual and in-person workshops on birth justice, trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and systems integration of our virtual doula platform.
Hospital & Health System Engagement
Ongoing workshops and peer support spaces to strengthen respectful care practices and support provider wellbeing.
Systems Integration
Connecting JBS virtual community-based doulas, health systems, and public health agencies to improve continuity of care.
Toolkit & Curriculum Development
Evidence-based resources, including our national Birth Justice Toolkit and an **online asynchronous learning program for both patients and providers**.
The C.A.R.E. Model
Our approach is guided by four principles that shape how we engage with health systems and communities:
Connection – Building authentic relationships between birthing people, providers, and systems.
Accountability – Establishing pathways for responsibility, transparency, and change.
Repair – Creating space for healing from birth trauma, both for patients and providers.
Equity – Ensuring fair, just, and respectful care for every birthing individual.
Our Impact
Delivered hospital-based trainings for perinatal providers.
Launched a national curriculum and toolkit on birth justice.
Facilitated healing and accountability spaces for both birthing people and providers.
Advanced innovative models that bridge community-based support and health systems.
Our Vision
We envision a world where equitable, accessible, and respectful maternal health care is a universal human right. By embedding the C.A.R.E. Model into direct client services and provider training, JBS operationalizes birth justice within health systems—breaking down silos of care and creating continuity for families.
This approach alleviates birth trauma, reduces provider burnout, and builds a more just, person-centered perinatal care system that can be replicated nationwide.
